Athen's wisest viewed this House Divided built on shifting sands,
they thought the Grand Experiment the last best hope of earth.

The gods had long past decided all men were created equal,
if the nation here required the better angels of our nature to give it birth.

at one, then two, then, three piper's chance.

Only to realize those who followed could never hallow, never consecrate,
the heroes of Concord, of Shiloh, of St. Iwo with a last full measure dance.
