2024’s Happiness Lies In Dog’s Bed?

Stop overachieving & overthinking for happiness in the New Year, says a WSJ essay, yet another suggests how to love work & love it until you drop dead. Dunno. Either way, best advice may be found in story on $500 dog bed for humans …

Allow me to save about 15 minutes in reading these 3 life style articles by giving the short & sweet of the seemingly contrarian messaging. The No. 1 chill out piece notes the obvious that “Stop Overdoing Everything” as a way to “feel more secure” because “they can seriously hurt our mental & physical health.” Then, again, the No. 2 work until you are buried piece also notes the commonsense view that “echoes the anti-burnout habits of Munger, O’Connor & others” by sharing “the secret … from those who work six or more decades: a passion for what they do & an ability to reset after late-life setbacks.” I can attest to both takes on happiness in life as they mirror my own experiences into retirement from a mind-bending career. That is, I’m as busy yet much happier than ever in retirement largely by working at following the above sage “forest from the trees” advice.

So, what does that have to do with the $500 Dog Beds for Humans? Which, btw, I will NOT adopt? Not because I disagree with the benefits of the new fad, but because I don’t want to horn in on my Cavalier King Charles’ space or confuse him into trading places with me in the queen-sized humanoid bed I share with my wife ... no matter how hard it is to give up “that warm & fuzzy haven for four-legged friends [that] has become the latest comfort craze for people.”
