25 Yrs Later Princess Diana Escaped Not

It’s one thing for attention grabbing celebs like Baldwin to suddenly bitch about respecting their privacy & another for celebs fleeing their celebrity like Princess Diana who “feared for her life” after the Versace murder.

The injustice may rightly occur to us on the 25th anniversary of the Princess’s tragic death in a Paris tunnel while fleeing her hounding paparazzi … and after a new book by a body guard reminds of the extent of the fear she harbored in the aftermath of Gianni Versace’s murder one month before she also perished. As Fox News notes, “before his death, Versace had formed a friendship with the princess, whose divorce from Prince Charles was finalized in 1996. As it happens, Lee Sansum, an ex-military policeman, writes about Diana’s growing fears for her life in a memoir, “Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard’s Story.” At one point she asked point blank of the guard: “Do you think they are going to kill me?”

Europe's "paparazzi at the time could do pretty much whatever they wanted,” said Sansum. “Some of the pictures of her would sell for a million euros … It wasn’t particularly the photographs that we were frightened of ... but it was the volume of the paparazzi and the measures they were prepared to take to follow us, to hound us.” Sansum said the British press accused her of “seeking sympathy” in her feud with Charles. Yet, Diana confided she was planning on “escaping” to the US, esp California, where new boyfriend, film producer Dodi Al Fayed, had a residence. While Sansum was one of several hired to protect Diana & Al Fayed during their last summer together, he wasn’t present as the couple rode in that limo fleeing the Euro paparazzi. They of course never got to escape to America.
