Adulthood Stuns Transatlantic Partners

Much has been written how Europeans hate Americans now that Trump derailed US gravy train with USA First policy. But, socialist Euros are oblivious to American disgust with saving their butts in wars they started & giving them trillions after.

Talk about European hypocrisy & delusion? The WSJ story put a more “balanced” take on the mutual loathing that has now surfaced in full view: “It was a text message the public was never supposed to see …” VP Vance and other officials were debating a military strike against Houthi rebels terrorizing the Red Sea shipping lane in a leaked Signal exchange … “‘I just hate bailing Europe out again,’ Vance wrote. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth quickly agreed: ‘I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC.’” The point is, many Americans share those sentiments & voted in November to make it part of US foreign policy, albeit in a more diplomatic manner; and, many Euros – stunned by the candor expressed by Vance & Hegseth -- had similarly long complained about US never, ever doing enough for them.

Somehow, the WSJ noted, the Euros never got earlier memos, incl President Trump’s demanding Euros pay their share of NATO costs & asking Denmark to “hand over Greenland to the U.S.” to help better defend against Russian & Chinese designs. Yet, lost in all the angst on both sides of the pond is the reality this now open “tectonic policy shift” was long overdue & inevitable by any stretch of the imagination. It simply took some American with enough guts like President Trump, or an accidentally leaked memo by his Administration, to state the new, more realistic & sustainable relationship. It doesn’t mean the “transatlantic Partnership” has to be at an end, just run as if between two grown up adults.
