Afghan Allies In US Deserve A Peace?
Over 79K Afghan allies still need America’s help after being caught up in Biden’s botched withdrawal, many of whom were shipped to the States, but are now stranded & living in immigration limbo. Can Congress unbotch?
As the WSJ op ed argues, “President Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 ended the free choice of countless Afghans and thousands who fled to the US are now at risk of losing even more. A [immigration] fix is on Congress’s agenda, but time is running out.” That’s because when the Taliban retook the country more than 79,000 Afghans were evacuated post-haste to the US and given only temporary immigration status known as “humanitarian parole,” but which gives no path to permanent residency and expires after two years.
As the editors note, these Afghans who helped the US fight the Taliban and ISIS for years, have “already undergone vetting.” Isn’t it about time Joe & Congress gave them a well-deserved thank you and peace of mind?
