AI Making Fast Buck Off Guinea Pigs?

Is Mims’ op ed “With AI, We Are All Once Again Tech Companies’ Guinea Pigs” esp revealing about our own gullibility? “Even the people behind new artificial intelligence systems say buzzy products are “somewhat broken.”

In short, Mims argues, “They’re relying on us to fix them.” Déjà vu all over again? How many times in how many scenarios are we going to see this theorem & its corollary play out? Personal computers, phones, alt energy schemes, bot automobiles & EVs with exploding batteries …

Fast forward to now, Mims suggests: “The companies touting new chat-based artificial-intelligence systems are running a massive experiment – and we are the test subjects. In this experiment, Microsoft, OpenAI & others are rolling out on the internet an alien intelligence that no one really understands, which has been granted the ability to influence our assessment of what’s true in the world.” Well, do WE HAVE TO HAIL FROM MISSOURI OR HAVE A MACHINE remind us of the old adage “seeing is believing” before we put our faith and hard-earned money into any new-fangled scheme that may help mankind in the long-run but in the short-term seems designed to make a fast buck?
