Alt GOP DOA W/O Champaign Bernie’s Trotsky Model

Social media is already peppered with calls for abandoning the GOP & starting a “new” party so might as well note what a lost cause this is, at least, unless done right.

The GOP itself was started before the Civil War by anti-slavery folks frustrated in how the Whig & Democratic parties were handling affairs. Yet, it took them nearly a decade to take root & get Mr. Lincoln elected president with a minority of the popular vote…and, only because the pro-slavery Southerners were divided. So, if anyone thinks they are going to launch a whole new 3rd Party & instantly seize power from the Democrats who now control the WH & Congress, they are in for (yet another) 2024 rude awakening. In fact, naïveté in how Presidents are elected in a supposedly “rigged” system was rightly cited in a WSJ op ed by Congressman Dan Crenshaw as the main reason the Dems ran rings around the Trump-led GOP in 2020. In short, our federal system was & still is set up so that the election “rules” are set at the STATE level. You want to make (or change) those rules like the Dems, you must do it there, not by storming Capitol Hill.

Perhaps more importantly, a lesson in gamesmanship might be learned from the die-hard socialist Bernie Sanders. He spent a life time begging the DNC to adopt his Trotsky agenda; each time, he lost a campaign for President, he “compromised” to settle for crumbs on this issue & that...until some of his craziest ideas became “mainstream.” Bernie STILL is not going to be Secretary of the Treasury in the Biden Administration. But, he & his little band of Marxists who patiently fought within the DNC are now sipping Champaign, while his detractors are downing a lot of righteous gall.
