Americans Rue What They Wished For In Big Govt
Citing new polls, The WSJ marveled “Big Government Isn’t Popular Again” as the Biden crises multiply, but is the drop in approval ratings because the earlier expressed desire for “More Big Government” was misunderstood for wanting “Better Government”?
What’s clear to the editors is that the Gallup poll undeniably found a decided “decline in public support for more taxes & services.” In short, they wanted “better” not “more”. Asked whether government should do more or less to solve the country’s problems (many arguably STARTED by more government intrusion) 52% of Americans said government is doing too much. Note, the Gallup headline last year said a “New High 54% Want Government to Solve More Problems.”
It’s the classic poll results depending upon how the question is asked. Of course, folks wanted more problems solved, who wouldn’t? It’s just that they didn’t want more problems created by the government while supposedly addressing the old problems but making them even worse.
