Amorphous Energy Proposal Grates Grid

Well, Joe promised to be a “transformational” president & his latest green daydream IS making it impossible for US grid to get the transformers needed to maintain let alone build it out. Coming result: Outages & outrage?

Allysia Finley’s op ed in the WSJ, “The Other Green-Energy Grid Crisis” warns “a lack of transformers has [already] led to a housing shortage, frequent power outages & dependence on China.” That’s right. According to Finley, many new housing projects being planned across America are on hold, not because of a lack of timber or even purchasers, but because builders can’t deliver the damn electricity to them ... and what transformers (that take many moons to build) are on the horizon are mostly on the assembly lines in (you guessed it) CHINA.

Then, consider that the Dept of Energy in January proposed new “efficiency standards” requiring “amorphous steel” that can be only readily gotten you know where … on the “debatable” premise it reduces power losses & the need for fossil-fuel generation. Never mind the certainty that the standards “would upend the market & manufacturing process” for electrical equipment throughout the economy. Even Joe’s allies in the auto and utility industries wrote a May 22 letter begging him to ditch the coming amorphous “amorphous steel” rules and last week 47 Senators, including 13 Democrats, wrote to Energy Sec Jen Granholm warning her proposed rule “could put the administration’s electrification goals at risk by exacerbating an existing grid vulnerability” and even threaten national security.” Concluded Ms. Finley: “Mr. Biden’s climate policies are working at cross purposes, which might be comical if the consequences weren’t so grave.”
