Anti-banker Omarova’s Nomination Exiled ala Trotsky

Pres Biden withdrew his anti-bank nominee, Saule Omarova, a Soviet native, to be his top banking regulator. The bitter industry & GOP opposition had Joe scratching his head, even though Omarova had said she’d like to “nationalize” aka dismantle the US banking system.

Omarova’s critics had little doubt about blocking Joe’s choice to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more radical choice for any regulatory spot in our federal government,” Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa) had once said. “You could ask yourself, ‘Where would a person even come up with these ideas?’ Well, maybe a contributing factor could be in if a person grew up in the former Soviet Union, and went to Moscow State University, and attended there on a Vladimir Lenin Academic Scholarship.”

Still, Mr. Biden didn’t see it that way. “I nominated Saule because of her deep expertise in financial regulation & her long-standing, respected career in the private sector, the public sector, and as a leading academic in her field…” Maybe, if only Ms. Omarova hadn’t talked at times like exiled Leon Trotsky explaining his “Theory of Permanent Revolution”?
