Anti-Semitism Turns Liberals Into Knots

Gerard Baker’s right about “Liberals need a reckoning with anti-Semitism.” Consider the absurd spectacle of college protests shaming Israel for supposed genocide of Hamas, which wants to wipe all Jews off the face of the earth.

As the WSJ columnist noted, progressive talking points posing as ideology, like “decolonization” & “intersectionality,” are being turned on their heads by so-called elite academia “to justify mass murder.” Somehow, it’s ok for Hamas, e.g., to butcher Israeli men, women & children in their homes, but its dastardly for Israel to do hunt down those terrorist perpetrators. Want to know the face of weird? Gerard says, “there can have been few more weirdly humorous spectacles this week than the protests of gay-rights groups expressing solidarity with Hamas, under whose jurisdiction homosexual activity can get you executed [while] Israel is the only country in the Middle East that tolerates sexual nonconformity.”

As for the “decolonization” mantra, let’s not even suggest the hypocrisy of the “colonized” NEVER wanting to give back the benefits it gave them like education, jobs & a higher standard of living, including streamed Taylor Swift concerts. Mr. Baker worries about decolonization’s “darker implications … We had thought this term applied mainly to things like reparations, the return of museum artifacts & the downgrading of dead white males in history, literature & art [yes, even gays like da Vinci & Michelangelo] … But it turns out that for some on the left it may have to involve an occasional massacre.” Take Walaa Alqaisiya, a Columbia U research fellow. Please. The genius it seems tweeted, “Decolonization means resistance of the oppressed & that includes armed struggle to LITERALLY get our lands & lives back!” Concluded Baker: “Most Democrats & liberals aren’t anti-Semitic & don’t favor violence in the name of ‘social justice.’ But they – and the rest of us – should reflect on where their logic leads.
