Axelrod Axes Dem Deniers, Sort Of

As a fellow Sweet Home Chicagoan, I give a Chicago Cubs kind of thumbs up to Dem strategist David Axelrod who has the brains & guts to tell CNN he hopes for Trump’s success & urges him to work with even the woke for “Good of the country.”

Of course, the network’s die-hard lib anchor Anderson Cooper looked like he was going to puke when he heard these words in an on-air interview. But, as they would say on the South Side when I was a little boy, “Tough toenails.” Of course, Axelrod’s nod was cleverly conditioned if not wisely upon Trump’s living up to his promise. Said Axelrod at one point: “Donald Trump has said he’s going to lower people’s prices very quickly. He said he’ going to take care of the border, he’s going to reduce crime, he’s going to end war, he’s going to do a lot of things. If he does all those things, God bless him. Good for him & good for the country.”

Realistically? It took even Ronald Reagan a couple of years to get Jimmy Carter’s wild inflation under control, and Trump has only so much control over Congress, the Fed & other actors contributing to the nation’s inflationary crisis. He’ll have to work carefully with the more reasonable folks on the “other side of the aisle.” But, the border fiasco can be largely fixed in short order simply by waking up rather than sleeping on the job like Biden did. Funding rather than defending police, at least at the federal level, is something even few Dems would dare resist at this point. And, Trump has a lot of levers he can pull to significantly pull back quickly the raging conflict in Ukraine & the Middle East, although the Trumpian demand for a release of all American prisoners “or else” may stretch that desirable peace-loving goal.
