Bernie Harris’ Speech One for the Ages?

Kamala’s debut campaign speech was so leftist you’d think her running mate will be socialist Bernie Sanders. The head scratcher is, in doing so, she did more than Trump in his GOP acceptance speech to kiss off swing voters.

Befuddled as they were after Trump’s AC-DC speech thanking God for surviving an assassin’s bullet & calling for “unity,” but then repeating his typical crowd pleasing conservative wish list, the WSJ editorial board wondered how the Dems’ presumptive nominee could also miss the golden opportunity to broaden her electoral appeal: “Does Kamala Harris think she’s going to win this election by firing up the Democratic base? That’s a serious question after watching her first campaign rally since President Biden’s sudden withdrawal from the 2024 race.” Among other staples right out of Bernie’s left field were insisting upon forgiving student loan debt, the Supreme Court & Congress be damned; imposing universal healthcare; greasing universal union representation; banning assault rifles; and overriding any state abortion limits.

The editors thought this was another “strange strategy” because Ms. Harris seemed to be “talking as if she’s running in the Democratic primaries & trying to beat California Gov. Gavin Newsom for her party’s presidential nod. In reality, she leapfrogged that fraught step & is going straight to the general election.” This tone deaf tunnel vision may be good news for Team Trump, but bad news for the country since it signals 4 more months of divisive rather than substantive rhetoric from a double-barreled you know what.
