Bibi’s Gaza Prospects Over the Top?

Is there a fine line between war time propaganda & prawda (The Truth)? First, WSJ reported on “Israel’s Untold Gaza Progress,” suggesting IDF was “winning” against Hamas. Then, Netanyahu tells Fox Israel’s on the verge of total victory.

As the WSJ reported on February 4, “You may have missed it amid the media defeatism, but Israel is winning its war in Gaza. Hamas’s losses are mounting, and support for the Israeli war effort has endured around the world longer than Hamas expected.” Fast forward to yesterday’s WSJ editorial arguing the taking of Rafah is essential for an end to endless war with Hamas.

Little wonder then that a recent Fox News story likewise extols Israel’s military prospects in Gaza with the headline, “Netanyahu declares ‘victory is within reach’ as Hamas reduced to ‘last remaining bastion.’” Netanyahu made the statement insisting Israeli forces have beaten Hamas back & vowing to continue to deliver the final blow, even though President Biden has called the planned assault on Rafah “over the top.” Explained the Israeli PM: “We have already destroyed three-quarters of Hamas’ organized terrorist battalions … 18 out of 24 – we’re not going to leave the other six. That would be like [the US & Trump] leaving a quarter of ISIS in Iraq in place & you say, ‘Well, they can have their little territory. It’ ok.’ Obviously, ISIS would re-establish itself.” Clearly, Mr. Biden, worried about how the war & civilian casualties looks to some in the lead up to his next election, has “lost” control of his once solid ally.
