Biden Bets House As GOP Calls Bluff With Royal Flush
Let’s face it. President Biden showed how crappy he can be at “risk management” by irresponsibly overreaching on his proposed $6T budget blowout to supposedly “reshape” America but really to suck up to radical leftists intimidating him.
First, Joe could spend $12T (not just $6T) on reshaping America and it would go down the same progressive toilet as the previous $48T spent on reshaping America (think, e.g., LBJ’s Great Society eons ago). Second, the WSJ’s Kim Strassel reminds in “Biden’s Agenda Hits a Senate Wall” that his party’s latest power play to ram home their radical agenda (rather than negotiate a deal with the GOP) was always “tenuous” because A.) Even centrist Democrats don’t want to bankrupt the nation to chase after more progressive pipe dreams; and B.) the GOP could use the same Dem rules ruses against him & his radical handlers. She noted in particular: “A recent straightforward ruling by Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough unraveled Democratic plans to use a procedural maneuver [i.e., end GOPers’ right to “filibuster” or stall goofy spending ideas] to whisk through Joe Biden’s multitrillion-dollar expansion of government.”
In short, the risk-reward for Mr. Biden was never there there. As Ms. Strassel put it: Democrat radicals convinced Joe to “go big” with a “GOP, just kiss my coattails” “strategy that had no margin for error (therefore, little chance at success). And, Joe took the bait by relying on their “two big bets”, she noted: “First, that they could juke or blow up the Senate rules to get around the 60-vote filibuster. Second, that they could force or cajole every member of their razor-thin majority to adopt one of the most progressive agendas in U.S. history.” In both cases, Joe & team “bombed” last week. Now, centrist “Democrats are internally battling over [the wisdom of] tax changes and the extent to which to expand entitlements like Medicare” while his rads are “threatening to walk away if they don’t get more”, which they’ll do regardless. Know what? Only a Joe Schmo would go “all in” with a pair of deuces while his opponent was obviously holding a Royal Flush.
