Biden, Buttigieg EV Pros A “Con”?
Biden’s trans secretary Buttegieg had gall to tell Congress some EVs are now “cheaper” than comparable gas driven vehicles by comparing $26K Volt to $40K Ford 150 truck. Da. Note Vokswagen cans CEO for premature leap to EVs.
Well, if I ran Volkwagen I’d also be leery of selling EVs to trusting customers without also telling them one of its batteries might cost up to $20K to replace & a healthy skate boarder might have more “range” on the Autobahn. For instance, as experts told Fox News in the wake of Buttigieg’s silly comparison, “the EV Chevy Bolt … has a range of 259 miles while the traditional engine 2022 Chevy Spark has … a range of 297 miles. BTW, a new Spark’s price tag is almost half the EV Bolt. “Customers are clever enough to figure this out despite the snow job from … & kind of a con by … the electric vehicle promoters & people like Secretary Buttigieg,” said Myron Ebell, director of the Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy.
Meanwhile, in addition to what happened at Volkswagen, let’s follow the money inside the industry. In “Upside Down Logic of Electric SUVs” WSJ’s Holman Jenkins details how the auto industry is “gambling its finances on big electric vehicles for the rich, like Ford’s Mustang Mach-E & GM’s Hummer EV,” while the rest of us get offered “second-rate cars.”
