Biden’s Metal In Trade Wars Takes Shape In EU Deal
The WSJ’s “A Biden Trade Win in Europe”, i.e., by rolling back some Trump Era tariffs, is “good for both sides.” Note, it’s also one of the few times No. 46 left alone most of No. 45’s underlying policies, especially against the rest of the world and for one good PRC reason.
The WSJ didn’t mince any words in first calling Mr. Trump’s “trade war” over tariffs on European steel & aluminum with Europe “foolhardy.” It explained: “Mr. Trump’s gambit hurt his domestic economic growth agenda & goaded the EU into imposing retaliatory tariffs on a range of US goods from Harley-Davidson motorcycles to Kentucky bourbon.”
However, while Mr. Biden’s truce with the Euros on the Trump metals sanctions is a “significant de-escalation in this trade spat,” many of Mr. Trump’s far-ranging tariffs remain in force, at least, for now. Perhaps most notably, the WSJ suggests, Mr. Biden now has a better chance of working with the EU to fight the real & mutual trade enemy aka Communist China.
