Birds of a Feather Dodo Flock Together
Opposites may not always attract after all as a recent study suggests “similarities” between most successful couples is the secret sauce keeping them snug as a bug in a rug …
Now, the experts at the University of Colorado in Boulder are saying, “most relationships are built on ‘shared experiences & commonalities.” Their findings, Fox News says, are based on a review of previous studies & their own original data of more than 130 traits “spanning millions of couples as far back as 1903.” The undeniable take-away: Partner were more likely to be similar, sharing between 82% to 89% of the traits analyzed. Meanwhile, “individuals were likely to partner with those who were different from them for only 3% of the traits analyzed. Political & religious attitudes, level of education & substance use were traits that showed the highest correlations while birth year was the most shared trait. Whether an introvert or extrovert did not really make much of a difference as commonly believed.
“Our findings demonstrate that birds of a feather are indeed more likely to flock together,” author Tanya Horwitz, a doctoral candidate in the Dept of Psychology. She added: “Even in situations where we feel like we have a choice about our relationships, there may be mechanisms happening behind the scenes of which we aren’t fully aware.” Does this study, then, color if not give a new meaning to the old saw “You complete me?” as in “You reaffirm me?”
