Blue States’ Record Homeless Blues

The numbers don’t lie. Blue states led the way in US suffering another whopping 18% bump in homeless population in 2024 as their regressive progressive woke policies are like giant magnets drawing misery to their open borders.

The WSJ editorial board spelled it out for the still deluded: “In case you missed last Friday’s pre-holiday news dump, the Dept of Housing & Urban Development reported that homelessness this year hit a record. Add this to President Biden’s regrettable legacies, though it’s notable that progressive states accounted for most of the increase.” While the 18% increase in the homeless population is shocking, it comes on the tail of a 36% rise since 2019 when Joe Blow blew into the WH. Put another way, gov’t & nonprofit tallies estimate over 771K are living in public spaces, shelters or other subsidized housing. Incomprehensibly, the editors opine, the HUD report “essentially absolves federal policies of blame,” pulling out the old Covid pandemic excuse being parroted by the WH. Yet, the editors counter, “the end of souped-up Covid-era welfare can’t explain why there are so many more homeless now than before the pandemic.”

Think the Biden open border policy that brought God knows exactly how many foreigners to the Sanctuary Cities & their over-the-top, taxpayer-funded largess? In Chicago alone, the city says such new arrivals “accounted for more than 13,600 people in its emergency shelters,” which arguably translates into a 150% increase since the pandemic ended. Meanwhile, the WSJ notes, New York City’s “right to shelter” policy “also encourages migrants to take advantage of gov’t supported housing, including hotels in midtown Manhattan.” Then, think what the HUD report really means by “chronic homelessness,” which “fails to mention … mental illness & drug abuse” that’s “obvious to anyone who walks past an urban encampment … or any street in certain neighborhoods in LA.” Progressives never want to hear it, but their “housing first” policies have “failed.” Happy New Year.
