Boo Birds Await Tony In Tent City, Er, City By The Bay?
I’ve visited San Francisco several times & I’d now shed tears rather than leave my heart in that once beautiful city by the bay. Apparently, if Tony Bennett were now introducing his famous 1961 song at the Fairmont’s Venetian Room, he might be booed off the stage. Why? From Fox News we learn that the most recent “poll shows 70% of respondents say quality of life [there is] on the decline.”
The biggest gripes? “Crime and homelessness.” According to SFGate & a City Beat Poll commissioned by the city Chamber, nearly “80% said addressing homelessness is a top priority” while another “76% want more cops in high-crime neighborhoods.” Who’d have thunk? The SF Chronicle, the city’s leading newspaper, recently complained of a “753% jump in car break-ins” & “thefts are up 75%” compared to just a couple of years ago.
Of course, the same citizen woes & whiffs by local pols are being reported in nearly every big city under the control of you know who (hint: It ain’t Donald Trump). Fact is, Tony would be hard pressed to find a SF parking space these days without it being broken into as a homeless person looks on from his or her tent.
