Brit Restaurants Bring Pre-Paid Gas To Pump Revenue
The Fox News piece warned, “Some restaurants in England are asking customers to pay before they eat when indoor dining returns.” Apparently, the Brit owners are worried folks will make multiple reservations & stiff them on the day of. Is this a curious way of “thanking” patiently starving customers or a common sense way for the long struggling restaurants to avoid incurring even more financial losses after the lockdowns are lifted?
“No-shows are a nuisance at the best of times,” one industry leader told The Sun, “but, with businesses still so fragile, their impacts would be hugely compounded.” One restaurateur likened the new “experience” to going to the movies with a prepaid ticket and “giving the ticket to a friend” if you decide not to go after all.
So, yes, in the Kingdom the bill may come as the reservation is made, not after the meal has been served. Ok. But, what if a customer decides on steak rather than fish ‘n chips at a higher price? Does he or she go to the teller like you do at a pre paid gasoline pump before sitting down to eat? Presumably, the wait staff will wait for their money as always, or no? And, what if the chef cooks up an inedible turkey of a meal? As Pelosi aka “Lockdown Lilly” might say, “shut up and like what I serve up to you.”
