Butcher’s Bill In Lebanon Too High?
While the Hezbollah cease-fire may be a welcome diplomatic event, it’s mostly symbolic of a desperate need for peace along the Israel border. I, for one, would be damned if I’m an Israeli being asked to send my family back into that hell hole.
The WSJ Journal’s reminder of the Jews’ “Caution & Fear Despite Hezbollah Truce” may be a gross understatement as “many remain wary of returning to homes near the border with Lebanon after cease-fire.” No kidding. In a separate but related op ed by Benny Gantz, we’re told, “Without effective & reliable international involvement, the Israel Defense Forces will end up back in Lebanon.”
Mr. Gantz points the finger at “Iran” in suggesting it’s only a matter of time before that radical terrorist regime rearms its proxy in Lebanon … and the fighting renews. A Israeli soldier himself since 1978, he’s seen the futility of it all, the endless raids, tit for tats diplomacy that never addresses the root causes & the players who feed off of them. But, while Gantz bluntly calls for an “international force” to occupy the borders, he really means the “US Central Command must participate,” i.e., pay for it with both blood and money. He might be right. But, he’s wrong to think a Trump-led USA will foot the butcher’s bill.
