Chicago Cops Yet 2 Offer Suspects Free Beer
Fox notes 6 cities are on a pace to pass historic 2021 violent crime totals in 2022, while Chicago proudly announces its police will no longer “chase” suspects of “minor” crimes. Huh? Why not offer ‘em free beers?
To be fair, Chicago’s latest “progressive” police reform is not all that new in that other big cities are trying out such “limited pursuit” policies and swear it helps shepherd police resources while keeping cops out of harms way during minor scrapes. In other words, it’s a sort of “cost-benefit” approach and can, at first glance, make some common sense. Yet, isn’t “common sense” already supposed to be in play in Chicago police regs and everywhere else? For instance, why would a cop ever run after someone suspected of pulling tulips out of a protected forest preserve who’s fleeing on a moped?
Most importantly, who exactly is to say what is a minor crime or whether what may seem like a minor crime isn’t a major one? Are police supposed to be “Great Kreskins” now, too? And, why announce the policy as if it’s a WH Rose Garden signing ceremony? While you’re at it, why not offer suspects of “minor” crime a free pass and ride home?
