Chicago’s Heavy-Handed Lightfoot Given Mandate Boot

Mayor Lightfoot gives new meaning to “That Toddlin’ Town” as Chicagoans have been forced to dance n’ dodge her “Murder & Mandates” policies, even as violence there soars & a judge ends her vaccine feud with police.

You’ll recall how Mayor Lightfoot sued her police union for resisting her Covid vaccine mandate. Well, argued the WSJ, “The smartest thing” she did so far in her failed reign was “to drop it.” Supposedly, the editors note, Lightfoot is “satisfied with the number of police getting vaccinated” yet that aha moment came after “a judge stopped the city from firing members of the police union who don’t meet her Dec. 31 vaccination deadline.”

“All of this is a distraction,” the op ed continued. Chicago’s biggest problem (as it is in many other big cities) “is the explosion in violent crime. Last week the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office recorded it’s 1,000th murder in 2021 – and there’s still a month to go … Roughly 80% of the victims are African-Americans, which is a bracing reminder who pays the highest price when crime goes unchecked” thanks to foolish progressive crime policies. Concluded the editors: “In these circumstances, no mayor should be imposing health mandates that might reduce the number of police on the streets.”
