China Throws Climate Envoy A Taiwan Boner
Predictably, China’s Xi not only blew off US Climate Envoy Kerry in his latest visit to Beijing, but the PRC leadership suggested any further talks about the weather will only come after we throw Taiwan under a smelly diesel bus.
“We have a long way to go …” a disappointed John Quixote Kerry said after the latest talks were trashed in the PRC media. You think? First of all & as the WSJ editorial board noted, Xi had already publicly warned that his country would keep polluting the air faster than the USA purified it, at least, until 2030 when the nonbinding 2015 Paris climate agreement “suggests” they might want to dial its emissions back a bit, pretty please. But, added the WSJ, various Chinese leaders & the press they control pointedly linked “its cooperation on climate policy, or at least its promises of cooperation, to US agreement on other issues …” For instance, “Beijing wants the US to ‘pursue a rational, pragmatic & positive policy toward China’ (aka kiss its a**) & ‘properly handle the Taiwan issue’ (aka force Taiwan to kiss it’s a**).”
How gullible can you get? How many times since Tricky Dick got proverbially dicked by giving the PRC “Most Favored Nation status” in return for a supposedly “peaceful” settlement of Taiwan’s fate, is the US going to be played like an Chinese mandolin (liuqin)? On this & almost every other policy issue of note since? Does the WSJ have to repeat yet again that “China wants concessions on economics & security [& who know what else] from Biden in exchange for [more] green promises that China isn’t likely to keep.” The editors conclude: “It’s not a good trade for US interests.” YOU THINK?
