Christ’s Sacrificial Love Is For The Ages
Real saints were seen circa AD 67 when Emperor Nero blamed Christians for a fire that ravaged his capital, then, ignited them as Roman Candles or fed them to the lions. Sound familiar with today’s scapegoating Russian & Mid East wanna-be dictators? Putin, for instance, is reportedly telling his people Ukrainians are behind the terrorist attack on concert goers … & Hamas apologists insist the Israelis forced them to butcher 1,200 innocent Jews.
As it happens during and/or about His Last Supper two millennia ago, Jesus promised to not only free us from the “slavery of sin”, but to be with us “until the end of times.” On the other hand, He also warned us there would be many more dark days ahead … so long as there was such evil in the world. Even Paul of Tarsus was a confessed persecutor of the early Christians until he became one after seeing Christ in a life-changing vision. On his road to Damascus to hunt down a few more innocents, Jesus asked simply, “Why do you persecute Me?” Being also blinded as the ultimate Blind Guide made Paul see the Light. Then, he counseled as did Christ that you can’t beat evil with evil, only with a commitment to love, patience, discipline & maybe better brain power. Where evil abounds grace abounds more, he assured.
Hence, those immortal, God-inspired words in his Corinthians posting: “LOVE is patient, is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, does not seek its own way, it is not easily provoked, and it takes no account of evil. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
