Coach Davd Soul Pens Letter 2 ND

Dear ND Pres: "You must understand I love Knute Rockne as much as my favorite uncle. BUT. Coach Freeman’s 0-3 start harkens us back to that 2-8 record in ’56 when Our Lady’s school almost gave up the sport. Is it time, sir, and with all due respect, to pull the plug on ND football before the NCAA’s new pay-to-play rule turns it into a Sodom & Gomorrah show?"

Give up football an overreaction? Notre Dame’s 26-21 loss to Marshall last week maybe wasn’t as bad as Michigan’s 34-32 lost to Appalachian State in 2007. But consider the letter a pretend “Coach Lou Holtz” sent to Coach Freeman that aired on The Pat McAfee Show via YouTube. In part: “It was one of the most embarrassing defeats Notre Dame has faced in my life time … Was Chad Pennington playing? Was Randy Moss playing? Was Matthew McConaughey coaching? No, they weren’t. They was a bunch of people we never f****** heard of. And, ya’ still couldn’t get it done … I [still] have a lot of faith in [the team] … But, let me tell you, if Notre Dame loses to California on Saturday … I [and the alumni] might be f******* done with ya … I hate to say it, but Joe Montana is not walking through the door” to give you a miracle win …

I hate to say it, but I almost agree with Old Coach Lou. The truth is, the hostile takeover of “student athletes” has been forever tainted by the NCAA’s new rules (partly due to court decisions) that allows colleges to not only modestly pay its kids to play but the kids to ink lucrative deals with corporate “sponsors”. Meanwhile, the school spends (and makes) all this money on an elusive gridiron glory & still can't beat a Marshall. If Notre Dame gets back to its true roots and to it’s modern “mission” statement that encourages its students to dedicate their lives to the glory of God & not worldly greed, maybe it IS time (and school's better off) to shake down the thunder, give up the sport & send the woke NCAA back to the hell they just created?
