College’s Racist Without Basis Eras(i)s $36M

“Higher Education” implies teaching students how to follow the “High Road” in life, but liberal college Oberlin seemed to forget the rule & found itself forced by court to pay $36 M to bakery it called “racist” without basis.

That’s what defamation law can still do to you. That is, when you paint a person whose actions were obviously innocent enough with a tar & feather mentality ala Sam Adams in the early days of the American Revolution. The saddest if not oddest thing about this long sordid defamation episode is that Oberlin likely would have been without liability had it simply agreed to disagree with Gibson’s Bakery and Food Mart and simply criticized the way it stopped a shoplifting as if the minority offender was a tackling dummy. Instead, as Fox News & court docs relate, after 3 kids, including the tackling dummy, pleaded guilty to shoplifting at the store, Oberlin students insisted on protesting the supposed injustice & were joined by former Oberlin VP Meredith Raimondo who handed out flyers calling the bakery a “RACIST establishment with a LONG ACCOUNT of RACIAL PROFILING and DISCRIMINATION.” School resources were used to print the flyers and the school stopped buying food from the bakery.

Then, even after the jury returned a $44M verdict in favor of the bakery, the college fought it all the way up to the state Supreme Court and did get the judgment lowered, but only after another $6.5 million in legal fees were tagged on. What did Jesus say about making peace with the guy suing you on the way to the courthouse and before you wind up in the you know what?
