CRT Creep Cut In DeSantis’ House

Parents fighting to win back the education if not souls of their teen kids from woke school districts run amuck got some comfort as Fla Gov Ron DeSantis “Schools the College Board” that tried to ram CRT onto AP students.

As the WSJ reported, “The new AP course [in Florida high schools] on African-American Studies cuts the CRT,” i.e., it belatedly, if after parental protests as well as the governor’s demand & many a shocked editorial. In the end though, the district did “seriously rewrite” its framework for a new high-school advanced placement or AP course in African American Studies. Exclaimed the editors: “Critical race theory is out and Condoleezza Rice is in. The group insists that revisions were done for pedagogical reasons and completed in December, but even assuming that’s true, it’s vindication for” DeSantis.

What exactly was at stake? The state’s proposed curriculum featured topics on “Black Queer Studies,” “Post-racial Racism,” and “the case for reparations.” As the editors pointed out, “That framework suggested teens read a text from an academic exponent of critical race theory,” which might be seen as the equivalent of foisting CRT on kids through the back door. Or, as an earlier editorial pointed out, constitutes “creeping CRT”, despite increasing parental opposition to the mantra they say asserts that America was always & still is invariably racist. “We believe in teaching kids facts and how to think,” Mr. DeSantis is quoted as saying. “But, we don’t believe they should have an agenda imposed on them.”
