Cuomo Covid Catastrophe Doubled, Is NY Home Alone?
It gives no Cuomo critic satisfaction to have the New York Times confirm via state audit that its governor grossly undercounted virus deaths in nursing homes. By perhaps 50%. Now, we’re looking at up to 15K rather 8.5K elder deaths among 42K fatalities for all ages in New York alone. And, many of the families of these lost loved ones are probably too numb to grasp the meaning of this politician who insisted the Trump Administration “took the pandemic too lightly,” then, wrote a book of how well he tackled the nightmare "under my watch".
But, the “preliminary” findings of AG Letitia James, as Democrat at Gov. Cuomo, “suggests that many nursing home residents died from Covid-19 in hospitals after being transferred from their nursing homes, which is not reflected” in Cuomo’s published nursing home death data. Perhaps even more alarming was Ms. James’ report also finding a number of homes had “failed to comply with critical infection control policies,” including not isolating residents who had tested positive for the virus or screening employees for it. The coup de gras may, however, be the impact of the governor’s ordering of nursing homes to accept patients who had tested positive, while hundreds of empty hospital beds were available thanks to the Trump team’s early efforts to rapidly increase their number.
The bigger and more frightening question the MSM still is not asking is whether OTHER states committed the same or similar errors…and why the federal government did not push (even) harder to prioritize the isolation and special protection of nursing home residents.
