DEI Shoes Were Made For Walkin,’ Talkin’
WSJ's Jason Riley gave a thumbs up to “Matt Wash’s Hilarious New Film ‘Am I Racist,’” a documentary exposing DEI industry by letting its mouthpieces discredit themselves.” In short, it’s a classic “Takes One to Know One,” meme.
Not that everyone’s laughing. Notes Riley: “Robin DiAngelo, author of the bestselling ‘White Fragility’ and a leading authority on diversity, equity & inclusion, doesn’t want you to see ‘Am I Racist? If you see it anyway, which I strongly recommend, you’ll understand her objections. You’ll also laugh a lot.” Riley concedes Ms. DiAngelo accuses Walsh (drum roll) of racism, but he adds, “My guess is that her real objection to the movie is that it’s bad for business. Ms. DiAngelo has made a good living charging schools, government agencies & Fortune 500 companies tens of thousands of dollars to give speeches & host workshops on ‘antiracism.’”
And yet, in “Am I Racist?” Walsh devastatingly poses as a liberal activist “who is earnestly & hilariously seeking the counsel of unsuspecting DEI experts. He reveals how much they charge for their services – Ms. Di Angelo received $15K for about two hours of her time – and the kind of gobbledygook advice clients get in return.” Note, Riley notes, Wash’s approach isn’t mean-spirited or adversarial as he poses “straightforward questions & lets his interlocutors discredit themselves.” On the other hand, Riley says, “Along the way, the DEI industry is revealed to be something of a racket & such proponents as Ms. DiAngelo look like highbrow grifters.” If the shoe fits …
