Dem’s Waukesha Problem Is In Their Nutty Policies

The WSJ says “Democrats Have a Waukesha Problem” as even President Biden refuses to visit the heartbroken town after dozens of residents were horrifically mowed down by a serial felon during a Christmas Parade. Wisconsin may be the “original” progressive state, but its folks won’t soon forget the foolish progressive policies contributing to this disaster.

Columnist Kimberley Strassel was too kind in concluding “The massacre at [the] Christmas parade reveal[ed] the dangers of [left wing] crime policies.” The common reaction on the street: “It’s nuts that the suspect, with his long criminal history, was free on $1K bail posted days before the automotive rampage” and having been accused of running over the mother of his out of wedlock child with the very same SUV used at the parade. Yet, Strassel noted, here was New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & two fellow Congressional colleagues in a tweet the day after the Waukesha murders: “Today, we sent a letter … to NYC’s 5 District Attorneys requesting information on excessive bail in the NYC court system.”

Ms. Strassel wrote that this kind of “disconnect will haunt Democrats. Waukesha is one of those rare moments when the consequences of an extreme ideology are brutally exposed to a nation. It’s a big new midterm problem for Democrats, one that could prove as difficult to overcome as rising inflation, Covid surges and parental backlash against educational fads like critical race theory.” Still, as crime soars nationally, radical progressives keep doubling down on their push to “water down bail rules, forgo prosecutions, release prisoners and even defund the police.” Meanwhile, after the Waukesha horror unfolded, Joe Biden broke Turkey with a billionaire on Nantucket Island, instead of spending time with six grieving families. Nuts, too?
