Dems Need Prozac During Fake Con Crisis
WSJ to hysterical Dems: There's no Constitution crisis, unless Trump ignores court orders like Biden did. Maybe “Trump’s actions are aggressive, but they aren’t an executive coup” & he’ll likely win on most legal challenges, albeit not all.
Whew! That’s a summary of Biblical proportions, but let’s get down to the nitty gritty as the paper chastises “overwrought” Democrats & presents a coherent & “less apocalyptic” breakdown of how the Supreme Court will view No. 47’s actions & whether they “breach [the Constitution’s] checks & balances.” As for Trump’s domestic policy decisions, the editors opine, “most rest on strong legal ground,” while “some are legally debatable & could go either way in court.” In some cases, “Trump appears to be breaking current law deliberately to tee up cases that will go to the Supreme Court" to rule on what he considers to be unconstitutional. But, a crisis this is not.
To wit: The wailing against Trump’s pause on discretionary spending to ensure it conforms to his agenda is legally weak simply because “judges can’t force a POTUS to spend money Congress left to his discretion.” As for the federal workers given generous buyouts, the bitching about Congress not having funded them also “doesn’t make them illegal per se” since, in the unlikely event a worker is jilted, he has the clear cut right to sue in federal claims court. Then again, fired high ranking policy-making executives have surely worked “at will” since the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 explicitly exempted them from union protections. Where Trump is on shakier ground is his “dismantling” of agencies created by Congress, like USAID & CFPB. Of course, these & other dramas will play out in the courts, but meanwhile, the WSJ recommends we all relax. They remind us that Obama & Biden used the same tactics as Trump to further progressive agendas, only the MSM covered for them & the GOP didn’t always have the brains to fight back.
