Dip Sh** Immunity Frees Accused Rapist?
UN diplomat dodged NYC rape charges thanks to immunity law yet State Dept notes foreign dips accused of such serious crimes can still be held accountable. How? By sending ‘em back to hell they came from?
As Fox News reported, “a woman accused Charles Dickens (no kidding) Imene Oliha, 46, of opening the door for her as she entered her Washington Heights building, following her into her apartment and raping her twice before leaving.” She reported the attack to local police & Charles, who’s innocent until proven guilty under US law, was arrested … until he was released when he revealed he was a South Sudan diplomat.
Most often, experts say, the offenses are relatively minor and where more serious, the offending diplomat is put by his country on a plane back home. And, frankly, that’s the extent of it. As a State Dept official told the New York Post in this case: “For the moment, we can’t touch this man, BUT his government can lift his diplomatic immunity” agreed to by the US in various treaties. “In particular,” he reminded, “the US is a very influential country. We can pressure, in extreme cases, other governments where someone has committed a terrible crime on our territory to lift their diplomatic immunity.” Great. So, what’s been done to revoke this accused UN dip sh**’s immunity? Fox got “no comment” on this “specific” case from the State Dept since it’s an “ongoing investigation.” Isn’t it always?
