Does Trump Need A Haley Brain Storm?

WSJ suggests Trump blew chance to enlist Nikki Haley’s indy voters by considering her for VP when Axios report to contrary was shot down. But, if duo are like oil & water, does it mean a cabinet post couldn’t make for a digestable salad?

The paper’s editorial board was pretty blunt: Trump “needs to attract Nikki Haley’s voters & a MAGA echo won’t do it … Mr. Trump at least said he wishes her well, but rejecting her doesn’t solve his main campaign problem of appealing to Haley voters … [Moreover], this next VP choice may matter more than usual … [because] if Mr. Trump wins he’d be an immediate lame duck who can serve only one term. He turns 78 in June & he’d be the second oldest President after the current one.” The editorial board, then, want’s a VP running mate with an “experienced, steady hand.” While agreeing a Trump-Haley team likely couldn’t work because of their iron strong wills & mutual presidential ambitions, they still think Nikki fills the VP bill since she’s still getting 20% of the vote in GOP primaries, did well in the debates, kicked butt while Trump’s bag man at the UN, & was a two-term governor of South Carolina.

Ok, WSJ, but again we are living in the real world, as Mr. Trump recently reminded his followers on the abortion issue. Remember, Mr. Trump’s “short list” of VP candidates also fits the bill without the Haley’s vinegar, but who may or may not appeal to her Indy base. That being the case, doesn’t chef Trump still have a secret sauce in hand to boost his election chances? That is, by offering a cabinet post for Ms. Haley ala Lincoln-Seward-Chase? Can Mr. Trump swallow hard & make that call? Can a wounded Haley resist such a morsel (especially if it's called “Secretary of State” instead of “Birdbrain”), one that would likely also ease her path to the White House 4 years hence?
