DOJ Sues Va Over 18-Yr Old Voter Law
Virginia’s voter roll clean up law was enacted 18 years ago by a Democratic Gov & legislature -- yet the Biden Harris DOJ sues state on suddenly discovered ground it’s enforcement this year is too close to Nov. 5. GOP Gov: BS!
The WSJ editorial board agreed with Virginia’s current governor: “Mere weeks from the presidential election, AG Merrick Garland has dropped a legal bomb on Virginia. The Justice Department filed a lawsuit last week accusing the state of violating the National Voter Registration Act’s [“quiet aka 90-day period” section} in its efforts to ensure that only eligible citizens can vote … But there’s no violation in Virginia, Gov. Glen Youngkin says [since] the state is cleaning up its voter rolls under a law signed in 2006 by one of his Democratic predecessors, then-Gov. Tim Kaine.” This activity doesn’t violate federal law, he emphasizes “because Virginia’s process is not systematic but individualized, based on self-reporting. Virginia has been doing this clean up act for 18 years, yet the Justice Department chooses now to object.”
Of course, even the DOJ will not dare argue it isn’t typically a crime for a noncitizen to cast a vote in a federal election or contest the fact Virginia’s ballot security procedures have correctly removed 6,303 noncitizens from the voter rolls since 2022. Yet, “Mr. Youngkin is [basically] being sued for doing what any Governor is supposed to do." As the editors concluded, “Many Americans have doubts” about the legitimacy of the elections, especially in blue states … “some justified, some not.” But, AG Garland’s “11th hour intervention will do nothing but stoke them.”
