Doomsday 60 Minutes Gets Clocked

We’re told CBS’s 60 Minutes (again) “uses failed doomsday biologist to predict ‘mass extinction’ of humanity”. Well, Paul (not the Apostle) Ehrlich ain’t Jesus who warned us of “Blind Guides” & its “False Prophets”.

Fox News suggests we might recall how Ehrlich’s “Population Bomb” got wide-spread notoriety in academia and among the lib media by predicting “widespread famine in the 1970s.” Leave it to the 60 Minute progressives, Fox quipped, to “ring in the New Year Sunday night” with Ehrlich “continuing to warn Americans about the threat of “mass extinction” thanks to the world’s “unsustainable” population growth and limited food as well as energy supplies. As if talking from a time capsule buried 50 odd years ago, Ehrlich explained: “To maintain out lifestyle (yours and mine, basically) for the entire planet, you’d need five more Earths. Not clear where they’re gonna come from.”

Well, Paul, I read your book when an undergrad student at UIC and instinctively knew you were full of it then. And, still alive to think it again, we might all be even more confident in mankind’s continued ability to not only sustain itself in the midst of population growth these past 50 years, but point to the lowest percentage of people now living in poverty in the history of recorded history. Not that stat keepers at such monitors as the UN, World Bank & Brookings ain’t urging the anti-poverty effort to itself be double-down on and not just sustainable. Way too many around the world as well as in our own backyard still go to bed hungry every night. Perhaps as Prophet John told us two centuries ago, however, it will be God, not 60 Minutes, deciding how much time we have left on His great green planet.
