El Paso Kid Kids The Naïve At Border

McGurn minced few words in taking “Joe Biden, the El Paso Kid” to task for 1 visit in 2 yrs to “The Wall” but also calls out the naïve “to think the border [PR stunt] would force the president to change his [open border] approach.”

As the WSJ columnist railed: “He came. He saw. He squandered.” That is, McGurn argues, No. 46’s stop in El Paso, Tx, was an opportunity to rally Congress to address the [belatedly acknowledged] crisis on the southern border” since so many border state politicians were begging for a fix to the nation’s long-broken immigration system as well as being flooded by thousands of immigrants illegally sneaking in … at times, virtually unopposed. “But Mr. Biden’s visit,” McGurn wrote, “is a reminder to politicians to be careful what you wish for. Up till now, [Joe] has largely ignored the border & the press did so [too]. Those who badgered him to go were calculating that if only Biden were to come face to face with the conditions created by the large numbers crossing illegally, he would be forced to propose something serious.”

Instead, what did the naïve get? No speech at the border for sure. McGurn gags on a few quips Biden made at the White House BEFORE going to El Paso. Something about the mess he was going to finally look into was Trump’s fault, and some vague new initiatives would be rushed to the scene, including an asylum app called CPB One that is “designed to relieve numbers at the border by allowing migrants to schedule asylum hearings before they leave their home countries.” Without others in the MSM calling this PR stunt for what it was, McGurn concludes, Joe will again be able to go “on his merry way” into immigration reform denial while Trump & GOP get trashed by his left-leaning media allies.
