Elon’s Darts Can’t Miss DC’s Porky Pigs

You might have noticed the Federal bureaucracy had BOOMED under Biden so Trump’s waste manager elect, Elon Musk, has “much to target.” Reality check: Elon could use a dart to throw at any building around the White House & hit whatever pig it lands on to slaughter.

That, at least, was the opinion of the WSJ’s editors who note there’s a reason “the left is attacking Mr. Musk, who has volunteered to run a government efficiency commission” under a Trump presidency. And that reason being, Musk has openly dared to float the idea he could cut federal spending by $2 trillion.” That, in turn the editors argue, isn’t possible without the entitlement reform that Trump, somewhat ironically, opposes.

Perhaps that’s true, but as the editors concede, “Mr. Musk’s reform ambition is much needed in government.” And, that concession may be an understatement. As the WSJ’s economic experts themselves highlight, the federal workforce, for one, “has exploded in the Biden era.” Since January 2021, they say, it has increased by about 120,800 employees so that the Swamp has added as many crocs, er, workers in the last 2 years as during the prior 13. And, the employment boom cuts across agencies: EPA (9.4%); HUD (10.7%); IRS (14%); State Dept (18.4%); & HHS (18.7%). Let’s not even peek at the so-called independent agencies like the SEC & FTC, many of which have also logged double-digit increases in new hires. That, friends, is a Noah’s Ark like boatload of piggies, many of whom are still working from home as if Dr. Fauci is still strongarming everyone to mask up & shelter in place so’s not to die from Covid. Some of that agency pork may not amount to $2 trillion dollars let alone a hill of beans, but it’s a good place for Elon to throw his first dart.
