EV Bulls Bear Burden Of Proof?
I like many are willing to “consider” an EV buy but as Bjorn Lomborg’s WSJ op ed says, the current government “Policies Pushing Electric Vehicles Show Why Few People Want One.” Aren’t “subsidies” the ULTIMATE red flag?
As Mr. Lomborg argued in the simplest terms: “They [EVs] wouldn’t need huge subsidies to sell if they really were a good choice and consumers know that.” As he noted, “We constantly hear that electric cars are the future – cleaner, cheaper and better. But if they’re so good, why does California need to ban gasoline-powered cars? Why does the world spend $30 billion a year subsidizing electric ones”?
Lomborg’s conclusion: “In reality, electric care are only sometimes and somewhat better than the alternatives, they’re often much costlier [check out the cost of ONE EV battery replacement] and they aren’t necessarily all that much cleaner.” In truth, aren’t consumers like me waiting for the proof to be in the pudding? That is, for EV technology, recharging capabilities and environmental deliverables to be demonstrably superior than Henry Ford’s known quantity … before Big Brother prematurely pushes yet another naïve progressive idea down our throats ON OUR DIME?
