EVs Get Fried By Half Of Its Guinea Pigs
Mc Kinsey data shocker: “Nearly Half of American EV owners want to switch back to gas-powered vehicle.” Buyer remorse is one thing, but this self-executed electrocution coulda, woulda, shoulda been avoided.
The Fox News coverage of McKinsey & Co’s Mobility Consumer Pulse released this month found that 46% of EV owners in the US said they were “very” likely to switch back to owning a gas-powered vehicle in their next purchase. McKinsey’s Philipp Kampshoff was not the only one taken by surprise: “I thought, ‘Once an EV buyer, always an EV buyer.’” But, what the government mandaters & subsidized industry beneficiaries didn’t take into account was that EVs are no “Field of Dreams” in which you “build it and they will come.” Or, at least, “stay,” once they realize they’ve been snookered. As in umpteen previous news reports, the biggest reasons for EV buyer remorse were lack of charging stations, cost despite subsidies & tax breaks, and long distance trip worries.
Not that EVs are a lost cause by any stretch. At least half of those buying into them love them … my son happens to be one of them. But, you’d think policy makers & industry leaders would have the common sense to “retool” their thinking and dream up a transition timetable that is realistic in terms of funding, then, building out the infrastructure, while simultaneously continuing to improve gas-powered vehicle efficiency.
