Exotic Weddings Driving All To Poor House?

We’re told “over-the-top wedding era is sending some guests into debt”. Shouldn’t common sense tell newlyweds if THEY can’t pay for wedding parties’ nuptial trip to bankruptcy don’t force THEM to go there with YOU?

It was a 12-time bridesmaid who told Fox News that planning & even attending weddings has skyrocketed. It’s no secret that as post-pandemic social media & sheer vendor greed have helped pressure starry-eyed Americans to put on more extravagant affairs. And, in so doing, the newlyweds, their participants & even guests are drowning in debt as well as rice. According to The Knot citing a Lending Tree survey, the average cost of weddings has now hit $30,000 and 60% of the guests concede they’ve gone into debt just to raise a glass of 1947 champagne to toast the bride & groom. Consider the fad of asking bridal parties to fly across America for a bachelor/bachelorette weekend and throwing a lingerie as well as wedding shower. The average guest alone, says BankRate, should expect to pay over $600 or more in 2023. But, really? Does that cover round trip air fares, esp for out of towners, who also have to book a hotel room for at least 2 nights?

Not that parents & the newlyweds aren’t also getting blistered by pre- and post-wedding breakfasts, the mega-buck contracts with the mega-buck hotel venue, caterer & DJ, etc. etc. Those interviewed largely blamed social media for the inflationary expectations and costs of today’s weddings. But, again, really? If the newlyweds & parents don’t have the common sense & discipline to pull off a beautiful event that all can afford, how are they going to make it to their 5th wedding anniversary? And, why should those they love have to be unnecessarily dragged into debt with them?
