FBI Sees “Appalling” Spike In Murder Inc

FBI says US murder rate climbed again in 2021 w/22.9K victims. Coincidence it sees 33K violent street gangs as sophisticated users of violence to control neighborhoods & boost revenues from drug, gun & human trafficking?

True, the FBI’s crime numbers game can be skewered by the various categories tracked & misleading comparisons to their prior years, some of which were “records” in their own right. As in any FBI crime update, then, there can be some “good” as well as “bad” news. For instance, murders were said to have increased 4.3% last year while rapes rose too … and the “FBI acknowledges violent crime is at the very least matching the high levels seen in 2020, which had surged nearly 30% over 2019.” On the other hand, Fox News noted the FBI numbers show, “violent crime slipped slightly across the nation as a whole, falling 1% from 1,326,600 in 2020 to 1,313,200 in 2021.” The FBI explained in a press release the seemingly contradictory stats this way: “The robbery rate decreased 8.9% from 2020 to 2021, which heavily contributed to the decrease in overall violent crime despite increases in murder & rape at the national level.”

No doubt the numbers also vary according to each urban or rural area reviewed, while “many police departments have failed to keep up” with their reporting obligations. For instance, Fox notes the FBI’s estimates suggest “carjackings rose 11.5% in 2021, but it likely rose more dramatically in reality due to cities like Philadelphia not fully reporting data.” Bottom line, said FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate, the homicides and assaults were occurring at an “appalling rate.”
