Fed Up Yet With Absent Fed Workers?
Call it a crock, a boondoggle, or a rip-off, but the US Government’s ongoing “absent stay-at-home workforce” is costing taxpayers big-time in terms of services as well as money.
As the WSJ editorial board noted, “Working from home every day is a fading memory for most Americans, but it’s become a permanent perk of government work, leaving federal offices vacant.” The editors note that “some lawmakers want to give agencies two options: Call your staff back in or sell off wasted space.” The threatened ultimatum by Sens. Joni Earnst (R. Iowa) & Gary Peters (D. Mich.) sounds great as far as it goes. Among other things, their proposal would require each federal agency to justify its work-from-home policy and count how many people come into the office. “That would give Congress,” the WSJ says, “the data it needs to crack down on laggards.” The Senate Homeland Security Cte approved the bill by a 12-2 vote last month.
But, more than creating still more red tape and stonewalling – and even more important than saving money – don’t we need a bill that forces more quality service IMMEDIATELY from the federal bureaucrats now working on taxpayers’ dime in the comfy digs they own? Is it just common sense to say we need these servants to get their sorry butts in the office to work for our money? Or, do we need more “justifications” for the scam? The pandemic is LONG over. Or, has Dr. Fauci declared otherwise, now telling all of us to mask up and hide in our closets again?
