Fed Workers Wink At Anti-Telework Bill

Would anyone but a Rumpelstiltskin, Bureaucrat or Democrat argue fed staffers working remotely from home the past 3 yrs has somehow improved services for taxpayers or increased “happier” crews’ productivity?

But, that’s why 205 Dems say they voted against the GOP bill that would force federal workers to return to the office as COVID pandemic winds down. Said Md Rep. Jamie Raskin, “We strongly oppose this bill, which is an assault on all the progress we have made over the last several years in telework policy” which has “strengthened private & public workplaces across the land, enhanced productivity, increased efficiency, improved morale of the workforce, reduced traffic congestion & made positive environmental changes.”

Well, we’re told climate change is still here, no? But, commuting from Falls Church into the DC downtown district, I can attest that the lack of government workers working in those monstrous federal buildings there has turned a 50-minute traffic nightmare into a pleasurable 22-minute ride for me. And, who’d blame fed folks (who mostly seem to vote Democratic) for being “happier” getting a big check directly deposited into their bank account for lifting a pinky to turn on the home computer? Before the final vote of 221-206 in favor of the House bill, its sponsor from Ky, James Comer, assured it is needed because the 3-yr telework policy has eroded gov’t service: “Federal agencies are falling short of their missions … They are failing the American people” who have “waited for months for their tax returns from the IRS … They have waited months for the Social Security Administration to answer their questions & provide their benefits. Our veterans have even waited for months to get their medical records.” Perhaps. But, at least, it’s all going to keep being done with a smile if Dem-controlled Senate does not get on board …
