Ford Lightning EV Singes CEO, Customer

I can’t see buying an EV until auto makers prove I don’t need to be Ben Franklin with a kite in search of a thunderstorm to get a fast charge as Ford CEO admits his Lightning F-150’s cross-country ride literally lacked juice. Did I mention an exasperated customer ditched his Ford EV because of a bunch of charging problems (& unforeseen expenses) made his purchase in his disillusioned eyes “the biggest scam of modern times”?

Of course, the Ford exec, Jim Farley, started his 3-day ride in a new F-150 EV to much MSM hoopla & with the expectation he’d show the world how wonderful the experience was to skeptical customers holding back because of reported charging problems, if not tales of some EV batteries blowing up, especially in Teslas. Well, Business Insider reported the CEO didn’t get blown out of his seat, but got blown away with a “reality check” on how hard it was to get his battery recharged “quickly” as well as adequately. “Charging has been pretty challenging,” Farley said in a video posted on X.

Consider too Canadian Dalbir Bala who Fox Business says bought a Ford Lightning for about $85,000 US plus tax so he could have a vehicle that would make him feel like a “responsible citizen.” Bala also got a “reality check” as he then repeatedly reached for his check book. The Ford EV needed him to install two chargers (one at work & another at home) for $10K and to accommodate the charger at home he had to upgrade his electrical panel for another $6K. But, lightning really struck when Bala took his EV truck & family on a 1,400 mile road trip from Winnipeg to Chicago. In Fargo ND, “it took two hours & $56 to charge his vehicle from 10% to 90% & was good for another 215 miles.” Further unsuccessful charging efforts down the road led to abandoning the truck in Minnesota & renting … a gas guzzler. Ford responded with sympathy & acknowledged more & better charging stations for all EVs are needed. You think?
