Garland’s Laureate For Special Counsels

AG Garland & DOJ are under fire from both political parties after punting their responsibility to 3 Special Counsels to handle 3 politically charged cases. So, is Merrick being abused for heroic nonpartisanship or cowardly butt covering?

What if the “Chicken Little” analogy is most appropriate? The WSJ story says “The AG has tried to stay above the political fray while overseeing investigations into Trump, Biden & his son,” but fails to consider that the AG’s woes might be irrepressibly tied to his “Three Special Counsels” referred to in the headline itself. If so, instead of courageously being a straight shooter, could it be Mr. Garland has been a disingenuous if not gutless decision-dodger wanting others to do the dirty work he’s being paid for?

While the Donald, Joe & Hunter cases were obviously all going to be politically charged & COULD involve painfully complex legal issues, they are arguably all painfully simple in their handling by VERY experienced government lawyers already costing taxpayers too much money. For instance, both Donald & Joe obviously possessed Uncle Sam’s documents -- classified or not, felony or not -- and both had a number of possible affirmative defenses to claim. Does it take a Solomon to let BOTH embarrassed POTUS’s as well as a bitterly divided country off the hook with a chastising warning to future “doddering” and/or “unhinged” presidents? The untested prosecutions would be forgotten old news by now. As for Hunter, duh, addicted to self-love or not, he simply didn’t pay taxes & got a gun with a delusional application. True, Garland & his Team of Geniuses” at Justice would have gotten reamed by the old men if they “took the bull by the horns” and stuck it to Hunter in plain sight. But, they’re getting reamed anyway, SP flak or no. And, aren’t we tired of getting out the hanky for these bureaucrat lawyers who we’re paying to just do their damn jobs?
