Gen Z Marriage Dropouts Live In Own Hell?
All’s well in a normal person's life, despite Gen Z trend bashing marriage. Proof: Just came from son’s & future daughter-in-law’s soulful engagement party with 3 male/female sibs & their well-matched spouses …
The Fox News op ed titling sounded dire enough: “A disturbing Gen Z social media trend threatens America’s most important institution,” as social media and “culture persistently perpetuate unrealistic expectations” about everything, from play to work to even marriage. No doubt, there’s a “new trend sweeping social media platforms of women denigrating the institution of marriage while promoting the virtues of a single lifestyle.” One viral Tik Tok, for example, shows “a girl putting on an engagement ring & seeing her future as a miserable housewife” and a lifetime of “servitude.”
We all know about the depressing divorce rates in various states. The op ed goes on to cite Census stats that shows marriage rate is down nationally, from 16.3% ten years ago to about 14.9% now. Of course, as a part of life, marriage is no bowl of cherries. Neither, btw, is a single life though, with its never-ending comings & goings. As the article suggests, “marriage [has traditionally been] a source of emotional support, financial stability & companionship.” My kids’ experiences so far would attest to that. Moi aussi. As for the bummed out Gen Z naysayers, I’d suggest thank goodness for their dropping out of traditional life so’s to spare more innocent victims from a living hell with them.
