GOP Senators Duped By Inflationary Acts?

GOP’s oft-been accused of helping Dems drive nat’l deficit to get hometown pork, but 17 Republican Senators took the cake by greasing Manchin’s inflationary “Inflation Reduction Act” after being duped into supporting a $280B semiconductor subsidy for pals.

At least, so argued WSJ columnist Kim Strassel in “Manchin and the GOP Dupes.” She notes how that first “embarrassing stew of accountability-free corporate welfare & gov’t spending … paved a runway for Biden’s long-sought climate, tax & healthcare agenda.” Supposedly, Sen Majority Ldr McConnell’s no. 1 priority was to keep in check the first “blowout” as well as the even grander Dems’ Build Back Better & Green New Deal. But, the key was NOT to do anything stupid in keeping BOTH spendthrift ideas hostage to one another because of the sheer size of their combined price tag, at least, until the so-called budget reconciliation bill expired in September. Yet, “mere hours after that [first] vote for the GOP’s semiconductor buds, Manchin announced he had reached a “pared down” super deal with Schumer on scheme No. 2. Why not? The West Va Mountain Man, at least in his own mind, could no longer be accused of single-handedly fueling inflation.

Yet, as WSJ editors argued in separate op ed: The wave of “new taxes & price controls to pay for [billions more in] green corporate welfare for the politically favored” will only fuel more inflation & is as likely to increase rather than decrease the national deficit. Wasn’t THAT supposed to be Mitch’s No. 1 priority? What’s that saying about “Déjà vu all over again”?
