Hamas’ Creep Strategy In the Works
But for the Grace of God there go I BUT, as WSJ opines, “Hamas Holds Everyone Hostage” with its shell game of trading 40 terrorists for 10 innocents while Fox News notes at this pace the “cease fire could last 2 ½ weeks.”
That’s, of course, because Hamas has an estimated 175 more human bodies to bargain with AND one never knows how many more they’ll snatch from their cradles in the meantime. Meanwhile, the WSJ editors give us sane people the obvious assessment: “The terrorists are trafficking in human beings to achieve their bloody aims,” which includes time to regroup, re-boobytrap, re-stock its hostage reservoir and otherwise tell the world what swell terrorists they are.
Not that the US or Israel have that much choice in the matter. As the WSJ noted: “The civilized world is rejoicing at the release of hostages by Hamas, especially the sight of young children reunited with parents after seven weeks of hell.” If I had a loved one held captive, I’d also likely be begging the powers that be to do whatever it takes to get him or her back. Yet, let’s not be deluded into thinking there is a safe harbor or happy ending in this cynical ruse. As the editors remind us: “Hamas is using the hostages to play on Western respect for human life. Hamas knows its strategy is dividing Israeli opinion between those who prioritize the release of the hostages and those who want Hamas defeated so it can never again slaughter 1,200 people.” The sad reality of it all is, then, until that V-Day comes, the creeps will continue to creep us out … because it works.
